I am writing this blog post in the days after the 2025 presidential election. I will not spend time expressing the stakes of this moment (it’s bad ya’ll, as we knew it would be), but instead, I will honor the work that I will continue to do as the Third Reconstruction of the US comes to an end (shoutout to my brilliant friend and collaborator, Dr. RL Watson for that apt revelation).
If you are looking to get some good and nourishing Black knowledge during February 2025, here is where you can catch me:
Monday 2/3, 7pm, Lake Forest College: Black History Month 2025 Kickoff Event
Thursday 2/6, 6pm, Lake Forest College: Oral Histories and Black Presence in the Forest
Tuesday 2/11, 6:30pm, Schaumburg Township District Library: Researching Haitian Heritage: The Haitian Diaspora Across Chicagoland
Wednesday 2/26, 7pm, Andy’s Records (Grayslake, IL): The Culture of Hip Hop
I have a few private/closed talks happening as well, one at DePaul University and another at Aurora High School. For my ancestors and future children, I will continue to use my voice to teach real history, with radical honesty and joy. The resistance continues, and I hope you will join me.
